Abstract:In high sour gas field development, conventional Claus process and SCOT tail gas treatment process are usually adopted to treat acid gas. In combination with practical situations in CDB High Sour Gas Field development, described is process selection for sulfur recovery unit in SCOT tail gas treatment, mainly including comparison and selection of conventional 2-stage Claus process or conventional 3-stage Claus process. Through quantitative comparison on primary investment costs(mainly including equipment costs, material costs, civil engineering costs, structure costs and installation costs) and operation costs in 20 years (mainly including catalyst and steam consumption costs) of two different sulfur recovery processes, it is considered that conventional 3-stage Claus sulfur recovery process in SCOT tail gas treatment is more economic and reasonable. Accordingly, this sulfur recovery process may be recommended in future similar projects.
