Abstract: Shale gas resource has become the focus of all over the world and shale gas exploration and development is under way in China. In order to protect the environment and eliminate public worries on environmental pollution likely resulting from its gas exploration and development, it is necessary to conduct scientific and reasonable environmental effect assessment and prepare timely and effective environmental protection measures in such exploration and development process. Researched are a series of environmental problems occurring in the exploration and development in America and analyzed are ticklish difficulties likely encountered in shale gas exploration and development in China, such as water resource consumption and pollution, surface and vegetation destruction, greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. It is suggested that management system is completed and preventive and control measures are prepared and environmental protection management plans and technologies are developed in shale gas exploration and development in order to explore and develop shale gas resource safely, reasonably and environmental-friendly.
