Abstract: In order to improve the utilization efficiency and production level of GPS,it is necessary to analyze its operation procedures and content in engineering survey of oil and gas fields and pipeline projects. GPS is often used for control survey, center line survey, topographic survey and mapping and longitudinal cross section survey and mapping of pipeline routes. During GPS data processing stage, quality assessment results calculated by random software are strictly not in correspondence with relative assessment indexes specified in current national standards for GPS and there are too much manual intervention. Put forward are some shortages in current GPS application in combination with actual production demands and proposed are some tentative ideas and thinking in GPS random software development and application, which can provide valuable references for future GPS application in oil and gas industry.
