    Abstract： Described are present situation and prospect of exploration and development of such unconventional oil and gas resources as shale oil， shale gas， coalbed methane and tight gas all over the world. Unconventional oil and gas resource potential is much more than conventional ones in China. Speeding up unconventional oil and gas exploration and development has the important practical significance for improving domestic oil and gas supply capacity. Formulation of a long-term program for unconventional oil and gas exploration and development and enhancing exploration research and technical preparation in this issue are critical to unconventional oil and gas development and self-sufficient ability improvement in oil and gas resources in China.
