Abstract: Coalbed methane is a new unconventional energy, its development and utilization are restricted due to such special distribution characteristics of coalbed methane in China as remoteness, scatter and smallness. Investment can be decreased if natural gas liquefaction technology is applied in coalbed methane storage and transportation. Based on relative investigation data, conducted is simulation study on 5 typical coalbed gas liquefaction processes (series nitrogen expansion liquefaction process, methane-nitrogen expansion liquefaction process, propane precooling nitrogen expansion liquefaction process, mixed refrigerant liquefaction process and propane precooling mixed refrigerant liquefaction process) and compared are specific power consumption, liquefaction rate, process complexity, adaptability, treatment capacity and investment of each process and obtained is the scope of application, which can provide the basis for liquefaction process selection in practical engineering design.
