Abstract: Leakage is found many times in certain oilfield offshore pipeline system and investigation results show that such leakage is resulted from corrosion perforation in 10″-5″ reducer joints. In order to avoid leakage from occurring again,it is necessary to analyze corrosion mechanism of reducer joints. 10″ pipe body of reducer joint is welded together with variable diameter pipe into a whole body, the weld seam in the whole body will be firstly corroded by O2 and Cl- dissolved in seawater and the special structure of 10″-5″ reducer joint will also change seawater flow velocity and accelerate such corrosion. Conducted is macro and micro analysis on reducer joint, test are its physical and chemical properties and microstructure and conducted is XRD analysis on its corrosion products. Results obtained from analysis and test show that weld seams of reducer joints submerged in seawater will corrode firstly, where flow velocity may suddenly increase and turbulent flow and flow field action will occur successively, which will bring about corrosion perforation in reducer joints. Consequently,it is very important to optimize structure of reducer joints and monitor corrosion in weld seams.
