Abstract:When foam pig passes wax layer protuberance in crude oil pipeline with wax deposit, pressure waves arise from the pig blockage, these waves are transmitted to the upstream and downstream pressure acquisition points, which will form a time difference. The time difference is used for tracking the foam pig position in crude oil pipeline. Compared with data obtained from the Chad crude oil pipeline in Africa, the results obtained by the calculation method are similar to actual ones. This method can solve the problem that foam pig without tracker can not be traced and it is suitable for crude oil pipeline with pressure acquisition system and much wax deposit in it and the more pressure acquisition points in pipeline system, the more accurate tracking can be obtained.
