    Abstract:

Safe operation and service life of fittings in China's oil and gas field development projects mainly depend on selection of standards followed in fittings engineering design. Described are fitting performances, including mechanical properties, impact toughness, hardness, metallography, chemical composition, manufacturing process specification (MPS) and  inspection and test requirements, analyzed are various problems existing in adoption of such common fitting standards  as GB/12459-2005,SY/T 0510-2010 and SY/T 0609-2006, which may result in potential risks on safe operation and service life of fittings. For the purpose of reducing such risks as far as possible, it is proposed that complementary  technical requirements shall be added to standard adoption in design and manufacture of fittings and current fitting standards shall be revised.
