Analysis on Cathodic Protection Failure of Gas Gathering Pipeline and Corresponding Solutions

Abstract：Protection potential of gas gathering pipeline in a gas field dropped after put into production and relative cathodic protection requirements cannot met. To solve the problem, it is necessary to find out factors resulting in protection potential drop and take some targeted solutions. PCM is applied to test gas gathering pipeline with protection potential drop and it is found that there is electricity leakage point in insulation joint at gas gathering station. Because such insulation joint cannot be replaced temporarily, the electricity leakage problem cannot be solved. Applied is the manner that the gas gathering pipeline is incorporated into the regional cathodic protection system at gas gathering station so that its cathodic protection requirements can be met. Therefore, if there is something wrong with pipeline cathodic protection system, such as insulation joint failure and mutual interference of cathodic protection system, etc., incorporation of the pipeline into the regional cathodic protection system is a good solution.
