Abstract:Insulation joint is the key component in cathodic protection system, and its reliability and safety development goes deeper. Due to the high temperature and high pressure in gas gathering system, the insulation joint will bear the bend moment arising from the internal pressure and thermal expansion, and the joint is likely to leak because of its structural feature. Hence, it is necessary to study the allowable tolerable bending moment of the insulation joint with working conditions taken into account, and then form a strength evaluation method. In the paper, based on the code requirement, the allowable tolerable bending moment equation of the insulation joint is derived with the pipeline strength theory, and then the method for strength checking of insulation joint and the method for design bending moment selection are presented. The study result in this paper will provide reference for safe engineering and strength check of insulation joint.
