    Study on Cold Insulation System of Full Containment LNG Storage Tanks and Its Performance

    Abstract:To study the thermal insulation property and cold insulation system of LNG tanks of full containment, main cold insulation materials and its performance of each part of LNG tanks were provided with construction procedures and installation instruction for reference. Based on the overall structural features of large LNG storage tank, the paper analyzes the quantity of heat leakage respectively at the bottom, wall and top of the storage tank, and puts forward a computing method for both the quantity of heat leakage and the daily static evaporation rate of large full containment LNG storage tank. Taking certain overseas 200,000 cubic meter LNG storage tank as an example, the paper provides the calculation results of heat leakage quantity and the daily evaporation rate and verifies that its daily evaporation rate is satisfactory. From the analysis of main factors affecting the evaporation rate of LNG storage tank, the paper finds out "the best diameter" and "the optimal filling rate" relevant to the LNG storage tank. Through raising the thickness of cold insulation layer, adopting the cold insulation material with small coefficient of thermal conductivity, and filling the LNG storage tank with nitrogen, etc., the daily evaporation rate of storage tank can be lowered, and in this way a basis can be provided for the design of cold insulation system for LNG storage tank.
