    Experimental Research on AWJ Cutting Safety Under Flammable Gasoline-Air Mixture

    Abstract:According to the application of abrasive water jet cutting in emergency rescue in oil and gas industry, experiment was carried out to study abrasive water jet cutting spark, detect temperature rise in the process of cutting, and finally to test abrasive water jet cutting safety under the condition of flammable gasoline-air mixture. The experimental results showed that the spark produced by abrasive water jet cutting is relatively weak, and is only produced in the process of some specific materials cutting like carbon steel. The lasting time of temperature rise is extremely short, and maximum temperatures of different materials were all below 100 °C ; abrasive water jet cutting is safe enough not to cause explosion under the condition of flammable gasoline-air mixture. The experimental results indicated that abrasive water jet cutting is safe and feasible to be applied in emergency rescue under the condition of flammable gasoline-air mixture.
