    Analysis of Grounding Materials Selection for Large LNG Storage Tank Engineering

    Abstract:

    Most of the large LNG storage tank engineering is located in coastal areas,which is characterized by high salinity and strong corrosion. The importance of the grounding grid is self-evident, as it directly affects the service life of grounding material.In order to ensure the safety and stability of the grounding system, the selection of reliable and durable grounding materials is the key and the material should hold the advantage that ensures lower construction cost of LNG storage tank.In view of the characteristics of the coastal soil and plant environment,the copper clad steel composite, zinc clad steel and non-metallic grounding module are analyzed for their corrosion resistance, corrosion mechanism and causes in soil,andtaking into consideration the influencing factors of these materials on soil pollution, construction cost, catholic protection system and other metal equipment in the soil, an environmental friendly grounding material with lower costs and strong corrosion resistance are selected.A method for testing corrosion rate in this industry is presented, and the material selection and calculation method of the grounding materials are proposed according to the corrosion rate, service life, soil resistivity and other parameters.A case project is taken for analysis and calculation, with feasible method forselecting grounding material, which is a good reference for LNG tank engineering in the future.
