    Abstract:

     Sino-Russia crude oil pipeline was the first large-scale pipeline project in China crossing the cold area.The pipeline operation and maintenance in high cold areas were plagued by permafrost geological disaster, low temperature and corrosion.China lacks practical experience in pipeline operation and maintenance in cold areas, however, Canada, the United States and Russia have built several oil and gas pipelines in permafrost regions.In this paper, the recommended practices for pipeline operation and maintenance at home and abroad were introduced, such as the implementation of pipeline frost heave and thaw settlement prevention and displacement monitoring,the regular in-line inspection and evaluation of pipeline conditions,the development of special maintenance and repair equipment for special environment as frozen soil and swamp, the application of UAV line patrol and sacrificial anode cathodic protection.It was pointed out that the development direction of pipeline design and construction in the future was maintenance free, remote control of equipment and digital management.By learning the advanced practical experience of foreign pipelines,it is helpfulto upgrade the technical level of pipeline operation and maintenance in China's cold areas, and provides reference for Sino-Russia east pipeline project.
