    Abstract:

In Canada, the investment and development of oil sand mine are considerably limited by the high capital costs. In order to reduce the development capital cost, the modular design approach of surface facilities was studied for the oil sand wellpad from the perspective of how to use Chinese sourced equipment. In this paper, the types and characteristics of surface facilities for oil sand wellpad are introduced, and the technical requirements of equipment in the wellpad and the feasibility of localization are analyzed. According to the process characteristics and transportation conditions of the wellpad, a new method of fast splicing for small standardized modules is proposed. Taking a wellpad in an overseas oil sand mining project developed by Chinese company as an example, a specific design case based on China sourcing is given. This approach greatly reduces the development cost of that oil field and provides strong technical reference for the export of Chinese equipment and modules to oil sand development market in North America.
