    Study on material selection and application of liquefied natural gas vaporizer

    Abstract:

    LNG vaporizer is the core equipment of the high-pressure gasification export facilities in LNG terminals, which has been monopolized by foreign technology for a long time. The study on the material selection of vaporizers is a critical step in enabling local design and production of the vaporizers. Intermediate fluid vaporizer(IFV), open rack vaporizer(ORV) and submerged combustion vaporizer(SCV) are the three most common vaporizers in LNG terminals in China. The chemical composition, mechanical properties and inspection tests of the materials of the key components of the vaporizers are studied, and titanium alloys, aluminium alloys, along with stainless steel materials from different domestic manufacturers are compared and selection is done in a comprehensive manner, so as to determine the optimal material selection plan. This paper presents the study on material selection and manufacturing of LNG vaporizers, to be used as a reference for further work on locally produced low temperature equipment, and for the design and development of new generation of LNG vaporizers.
