    Abstract:

In the golden age of the major development of natural gas industry, hydrogen energy is an ideal energy carrier to promote the clean utilization of traditional fossil energy and the large scale development of renewable energy. It will usher in the rapid development of the industry as a general trend, and will definitely have an impact on natural gas production enterprises. Taking the example of Sichuan-Chongqing area, one of China's main natural gas producing and consumption regions, this paper analyses the influence of hydrogen energy industry development on natural gas production enterprises based on the SWOT model:1)Strength analysis: Sichuan-Chongqing area has the inherent advantages of large-scale hydrogen production with good resource endowment; natural gas production will not be adversely affected in the short term and hydrogen production process would bring in opportunities; spiking hydrogen into natural gas pipeline network brings great benefits.2)Weakness analysis: the hydrogen energy industry is in its infancy stage and urgently needs to be accelerated; the storage and transportation industry is relatively weak with technical bottlenecks remain to be overcome.3)Opportunity analysis: supporting policies for hydrogen energy industry have been introduced regularly; transportation sector is the focus of downstream utilization development.4)Threat analysis: the hydrogen terminal market has a greater influence on the natural gas production enterprises; the construction and management of hydrogen refuelling station is relatively weak and the capital cost is high. The results show that the development of the hydrogen energy industry in Sichuan-Chongqing area brings more opportunities than challenges to natural gas production enterprises in general. Therefore, natural gas production enterprises are encouraged to pro-actively participate in and promote the development of hydrogen energy industry: participate in strategic planning and conceptual development design, and improve the structure of the value chain of the industry; cooperate with related enterprises to develop more expertise and technologies on hydrogen production from natural gas; take advantage of spiking hydrogen into natural gas pipeline network to promote the development of hydrogen energy midstream transportation market; steadily explore the construction of combined natural gas and hydrogen refuelling stations and hydrogen refuelling stations to maintain the advantages of integrated production, transportation, storage and marketing facilities.
