    Abstract:

In relation to the safety in design of oil and gas pipelines that needs attentions, taking into consideration the relevant minimum mandatory safety requirements for the design of onshore pipelines of the Saudi Aramco engineering standard SAES-B-064—2017 Engineering Standard-Onshore and Nearshore Pipeline Safety, and by comparing with Chinese national standard such as GB 50251—2015 Code for Design of Gas Transmission Pipeline Engineering, this paper discusses the engineering design of oil and gas pipeline location class and block valve station. Saudi Aramco engineering standards of pipeline safety design puts forward clear quantitative design requirements for major safety issues, which are more pragmatic and easier to implement. Taking into consideration the Saudi Aramco engineering standards requirements and the problems encountered in application of domestic codes and engineering practices, this paper analyses the differences, advantages and disadvantages in the determination of location class and block valves station are analyzed, and provide suggestions on revising and updating relevant regulations of Chinese national standard and standards. The suggestion aims to help improving the implementation of standard regulations at the design level and provides further guarantee for the pipeline integrity management.
