At present, China needs to introduce foreign patented technology to build LNG membrane tank. Localization of mature foreign LNG membrane tank technology will help China to master the core technology, lower project development investment, and shorten the construction duration. This paper summarized the whole process of introducing foreign LNG membrane tank technology and the transformation process into domestic technology in South Korea, sorted out the technological development time line and drew a preliminary conclusion for its implications for China. Some suggestions are put forward for the introduction and indigenization of LNG membrane tank technology in China. Firstly, China should develop a scientific and safe corrugated membrane technology, and verify the technology by experiments. Secondly, localization should also proceed in the establishment of standards, construction techniques and construction equipment, in order to promote big scale application of Chinas own LNG membrane tank technology.
