    Abstract:

The compressor by power drive system (PDS) is the core equipment of natural gas pipeline transmission network. It may be tripped by external factors, such as voltage transient from substation feeder and power supply equipment, etc. The unplanned compressor station shutdown interrupts the gas transmission stability and results in unnecessary economic loss. By analyzing the impact of voltage transient to compressor operation, this paper presents a new idea for voltage transient management and summarizes the technical measures, including process control, power supply system and equipment functionalities, which are successfully applied to the compressor and the auxiliary units. Application experience proves that technical measures and technical specifications meet the electric driven compressor's multiple operating points and achieve stable operation. The paper gives the summary of technical measures which are interrelated and acted together to ensure compressors are not affected by electrical voltage transients. The conclusions and suggestions presented in this paper provide significant guidance for design, construction and maintenance of natural gas pipeline system engineering development.
