The mercury containing waste water from the gas field is characterized by high concentration of total mercury, complex and diverse forms of mercury, stable and difficult to treat complex mercury. Furthermore, the waste water quality is complicated, and belongs to the category of highly mineralized, highly chlorinated and highly concentrated organic waste water. Under this situation, it is difficult to achieve the expected treatment effect with a single process. Thus, a new technology of “pretreatment process +high efficiency mercury capture process + renewable mercury adsorption process” is developed to remove total mercury, oil and SS (suspended solid). The study results show that the mercury removal efficiency of the new process is up to 99%, and removal rate of oil and SS is over 80% and 95% respectively. The effluent from the waste water treatment facilities consistently meets the standard requirements. The total mercury concentration in the final effluent is far below the limit of 50 μg/L as per GB 8978-1996 Comprehensive Sewage Discharge Standard. Both oil and SS contents meet the relevant requirements specified by SY/T 6596-2016 Technical Requirements for Gas field Water Injection. The study of this new treatment technology provides theoretical basis and technical data for the treatment of gas field mercury containing waste water, and provides technical support for the safe and environmentally friendly development of mercury containing gas fields.
