At present, the development of 70 MPa hydrogen refueling stations in China is relatively slow, primarily constrained by high equipment costs, limited market demand, and incomplete technical standards. Although 35 MPa stations remain dominant,70 MPa stations are crucial for extending vehicle range and serving the commercial vehicle market as fuel cell technology advances. This study reviews the global construction status of 70 MPa hydrogen refueling stations, highlighting significant progress in Europe, the United States, and Japan—particularly in commercial vehicle applications—while addressing pervasive challenges such as insufficient market demand and high operational costs. It identifies a common critical issue for 70 MPa stations worldwide: balancing equipment costs with market demand to enable commercial-scale operation. The analysis concludes that advancing 70 MPa hydrogen refueling infrastructure hinges policy support, technological innovation, and equipment localization. Further research suggests that skid-mounted station designs offer flexible and efficient solutions to reduce construction and operational costs, thereby overcoming deployment barriers. Accelerating domestic production of critical equipment is essential to break international technological monopolies and mitigate dependencies on imported components. Additionally, optimizing standardization systems, refining policy incentives, and maturing market mechanisms are vital to support scaled deployment of 70 MPa stations. These findings provide valuable insights for promoting the sustainable and healthy development of China's hydrogen energy industry.
